Accelerated Transition Between Dry and Wet Periods in a Warming Climate

چکیده

The consecutive occurrence of meteorological dry and wet extremes has been receiving increasing attention due to potentially larger social environmental impacts than single extremes. However, the changing characteristics transitions between periods remain poorly understood. Here we investigate dynamic evolution dry-to-wet in response climate warming, using Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index as well observations general circulation models for 1954–2014 2040–2100. We find that approximately three-fifths global land area are projected experience an accelerated transition. Southern Asia experiencing most severe is suffer more frequent, intense, transitions. potential evapotranspiration (PET) variability plays important role accelerating transition Asia, while precipitation PET variabilities contribute intensification North America.

Close relationship between a dry-wet transition and a bubble rearrangement in two-dimensional foam

Liquid foams are classified into a dry foam and a wet foam, empirically judging from the liquid fraction or the shape of the gas bubbles. It is known that physical properties such as elasticity and diffusion are different between the dry foam and the wet foam. Nevertheless, definitions of those states have been vague and the dry-wet transition of foams has not been clarified yet. Here we show t...

Spatial and Temporal Displacements in Wet and Dry Periods in the Southeast of the Caspian Sea: Golestan Province in Iran

The global warming phenomenon has had a great impact not only on the temperature patterns of the regions, but also on the spatial-temporal patterns of the occurrence of wet and dry days. As some areas have increased (decreased) the number of dry days, the result of these changes requires new approaches to water management in these areas. Golestan province in northern Iran is one of the province...

Tree Growth and Mortality in a Southern Appalachian Deciduous Forest Following Extended Wet and Dry Periods

We inventoried two 1-ha plots on opposing watersheds (WS2–WS-S, WS18–WS-N) three times (1983, 1989, 1998) over a 16-year period to contrast how differing precipitation (P) regimes affect tree mortality. From 1983 to 1989, annual precipitation averaged 16.5% less than the 64-year mean; from 1989 to 1998, it averaged 12.2% above the mean. In 1989 and 1998, standing crop biomass, aboveground net p...

Techno-Economic Assessment of Different Inlet Air Cooling Systems in Warm Dry & Wet Climate Stations

Performance of a gas turbine mainly depends on the inlet air temperature. The power output of a gas turbine depends on the flow of mass through it. This is precisely the reason why on hot days, when air is less dense, power output falls. The objective here is to assess the advanced systems applied in reducing the gas turbine intake air temperature and examine the merits from integration of the ...

Changes in Moisture entering the atmosphere of Iran and its relationship with seasonal wet and dry periods

Spatio-temporal variations of factors affecting the occurrence of precipitation can lead to a change in its amount. The atmospheric moisture is one of the most important factors for precipitation formation. In this study, changes in atmospheric moisture and its relation with occurrence of seasonal wet and dry periods were investigated in Iran. The re-analysis data from the ERA interim European ...
